The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO) has held talks with top officials in Jordan on the latest developments in the Israel-Palestinian conflict, especially the ongoing efforts to negotiate a two-State solution.

Robert Serry returned today to Jerusalem after the talks in Jordan, where he met with King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Nader Al-Dhahabi and Foreign Minister Salaheddin Al-Bashir, according to a statement released by <"http://www.unsco.org/Default.asp">UNSCO.

During the talks, Mr. Serry voiced Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's appreciation of Jordan's support for efforts to negotiate a two-State solution and build the institutions of a Palestinian State, the statement noted.

"Mr. Serry stressed the importance of further action on the ground to enable Palestinian institutional and economic development and to freeze all settlement activity, including in East Jerusalem."

The Special Coordinator welcomed Jordan's backing of current efforts in Cairo aimed at reunifying Gaza and the West Bank within the framework of the legitimate Palestinian Authority.

He also voiced the UN's continued support for the Arab Peace Initiative and a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace based on Security Council resolutions and international law.
