AS G-8 LEADERS GATHER IN JAPAN, BAN URGES ACTION ON THREE KEY CHALLENGES New York, Jul 7 2008 11:00AM As the leaders of the Group of Eight (G-8) countries gathered in Hokkaido, Japan, today for their summit meeting, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reiterated his call for urgent action to tackle three key challenges the world is currently grappling with.
"The world faces three simultaneous crises – a food crisis, a climate crisis and a development crisis," Mr. Ban told a press conference on the sidelines of the summit, which started today in the mountain resort of Hokkaido, in northern Japan.
